The city of Takeo in Saga Prefecture will sign an agreement later this month with the University of Tokyo to conduct research into the lemongrass herb. The research will involve methods for cultivation and the extraction of aromatic oil. Takeo has been cultivating two varieties of the plant for the past year with the intent of making it a special product of the area. One variety is used for food, and the other is used for the production of aromatic oil.
