Kyushu Electric Power Company and Saibu Gas have both announced utility rate hikes to offset the rising cost of coal and liquid natural gas. Both companies employ a fuel cost adjustment system that automatically revises rates; the adjusted rates will take effect in January. The average household (defined as one that uses 300kW of power and 23 m3 of gas per month) can expect a ¥15 uptick in its electricity bill and a ¥24 increase in gas costs.
