According to the Fukuoka Immigration Bureau, the number of visitors who entered Japan via Fukuoka Airport during the year-end and New Year’s holiday period (Dec. 26 ~ Jan. 6) reached 247,320. This figure marks a year-on-year increase of 24,260 and the highest number since the Bureau began collecting statistics in 2007. Visitors from South Korea accounted for the largest share at 68,140 persons (+13%), followed by Taiwan (17,640; +35%) and Hong Kong (11,850; +1%). The Fukuoka Immigration Bureau points to the addition of routes by low-cost carriers as one of the main reasons for the record high number. Source: fiba.jp
