J-Power and the city of Saikai, Nagasaki Prefecture, are moving ahead with plans to process garbage from the home into carbonized fuel and use it for thermal power generation. It is the first such project of its kind in the country. Spokesmen said it is expected to “kill three birds with one stone” by extending the useful life of local government waste processing sites, conserving on coal, and reducing CO2 emissions.
