Woman Arrested in Kitakyushu for Attempted Cigarette Theft

A 55-year-old woman, Yuka Oki, was arrested on October 16 for attempting to steal cigarettes from a supermarket in Kitakyushu’s Moji Ward. The woman was identified by store staff, who recognized her from previous incidents where cigarettes were stolen using similar tactics. In these prior cases, she would request multiple cigarette packs, distract the cashier, and flee without paying. The staff alerted police as soon as she entered the store. She was later found and arrested near the store, admitting to the theft. Police are further investigating her involvement in previous cigarette thefts from the same supermarket. Source: RKB
