Women Fill 6.6% of Management Positions in Kyushu

The Fukuoka branch of the Teikoku Databank revealed the results of a survey into employment attitudes and practices in Kyushu. A total of 714 companies responded out of the 1,972 companies across Kyushu and Okinawa. Nearly 48% stated that they are making efforts to promote the appointment and advancement of female staff. The proportion of women in managerial positions is now 6.6%, which is a new high for the area. The main industry where strides are taking place is in manufacturing, where female employees account for 25.9% of the workforce, a figure that is about 1.5% higher than the national average. The results also brought up the need for improved child care, the availability and quality of education for infants, the reduction of waiting lists for kindergartens, as well as increased levels of support for single-parent families.
