Yanagawa City unveiled a new floating platform known as “horidoko” on March 1, creating a flexible event space on its historic canal network. The wooden deck structure, measuring about three meters by 1.5 meters, is mounted on a barge and can be used for meetings, dining, and small gatherings. Multiple units can be connected to adjust size and layout, and the platforms can be repositioned along the waterways. Developed by the Yanagawa Tourism Association, the initiative complements the city’s traditional boat tours by offering a stationary experience on the water. Full-scale operations are scheduled to begin in May, with the aim of attracting both visitors and local residents. Source: NHK News / Visit Yanagawa
