The Kyushu Economic Federation (Kyukeiren) announced that Yutaka Aso, president of Aso Cement and brother of Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso, will be the group’s next chairman. He will be the first ever chairman selected from outside of Kyuden in Kyukeiren’s 42-year history. Current chairman Shingo Matsuo, Advisor to Kyuden, will remain as honorary chairman. The moves will be formally announced at Kyukeiren’s annual meeting on June 5. Aso was chosen for his “experience in many sectors” and “work ethic”. Aso said he hopes to “change Japan from Kyushu”.
