Mitsubachi – Bar & Dining

Hats off to whoever came up with the name mitsubachi (honeycomb), for this brand new, sensual and stylish restaurant and bar… it’s likely to see lots of action from the city’s single, swinging crowd. Located on the first floor of the recently refurbished “5th Hotel,” Mitsubachi’s ceiling-high windows offer stunning views of Naka River basking in the neon glow of Nakasu, and yatai-lined streets across the river bank. Mitsubachi serves both as a killer date spot and impressive lookout for visitors wanting to see Fukuoka’s infamous Nakasu, without having to actually go there. There’s a dining area (¥300 charge), riverside sofa seating (¥500), and bar counter and outdoor patio (no charge). The food menu (in English!) is titled “European Ethnic”, meaning stylized fusion of Asian and European – and is decidedly delicious and reasonably priced. After 10 pm, DJ’s gently raise the volume on their selections of Lounge and House music – and a small dance floor and mirror ball appear for those who feel like swinging or swaying. Here’s a bee’s nest you want to enter!
