According to tourism statistics recently released by Fukuoka City, the number of tourists visiting the city reached 20.5 million in 2016, which marks a 3.9% increase year-on-year and the highest number on record for the fifth consecutive year. It was the first time for the city to top 20 million tourists, and the uptick stems from an increase in both the number of cruise ship ports of call and new flight routes as well as the 12,000 or so participants who came for the Lions Club’s Annual International Convention.
