Oita Prefecture Sees Record Migration, Surpassing 10,000 in a Decade

Oita Prefecture announced on May 7th that a record 1,714 individuals relocated to the area in fiscal year 2023, surpassing the previous year by 206 people and marking the fourth consecutive year of increased relocations. Since starting to track these statistics in fiscal year 2014, the total number of newcomers has reached 10,722. In 2023, the most popular destinations within the prefecture were Oita City (229 people), Hita City (226 people), and Yufu City (205 people). The majority of these new residents moved from Fukuoka Prefecture (487 people) and the Tokyo metropolitan area (388 people). Governor Kiichiro Sato credited the success to the proactive migration and settlement initiatives by various municipalities and expressed the intention to continue these efforts. Source: NHK
