Kumamoto Semiconductor Council Launched with 40 Organizations

A new industry group, the Kumamoto Semiconductor Green Innovation Council, has been established with 40 member organizations, including TSMC, Sony, and Tokyo Electron. The council aims to maximize economic benefits from Kumamoto’s growing semiconductor industry while addressing labor and environmental challenges.

Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing President Yoshihiro Yamaguchi was appointed as the inaugural chairman, with leadership roles also held by representatives from TSMC Kumamoto and Tokyo Electron Kyushu. The council will coordinate with government agencies and other semiconductor hubs, including North Kyushu, which has attracted major Taiwanese investment.

With an estimated ¥13.4 trillion in economic impact over a decade, Kumamoto is positioning itself as a key player in Japan’s semiconductor strategy amid increasing regional competition. Source: TKU
