Kumamoto University announced on July 9 that a Chinese language education center will open on campus on July 15, operated by Taiwan’s National Sun Yat-sen University. The center will serve 11 national universities across Kyushu and Okinawa under the KOOU consortium, with language teachers dispatched as needed. The initiative stems from an agreement signed in April between KOOU and Taiwan’s UAAT university alliance, aiming to promote international cooperation in education and research. The move also reflects deepening economic and cultural ties driven by the semiconductor industry, particularly following TSMC’s new factory launch in Kumamoto. Source: Kumamoto University
