Japan’s First LNG-Powered Cruise Ship Docks in Hakata

“Asuka III,” Japan’s first large cruise ship to use liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel, made its maiden call at Hakata Port on July 14 ahead of its official launch on July 20. The 230-meter vessel can carry 740 passengers and is designed to reduce CO2 emissions by using LNG in addition to conventional fuels. The ship will also operate cruises departing from Hakata, boosting local tourism. Fukuoka City is promoting eco-friendly ships through reduced or waived port fees. Source: Asuka III / NHK
