A male mikan fruit fly, a pest harmful to citrus and other fruits, was found in a monitoring trap in Arita, Saga Prefecture, on September 16. This is the first detection in the prefecture in four years, though two cases were confirmed in Fukuoka earlier this year. The insect, designated a serious pest, can cause fruit rot and drop. Saga Prefecture will expand traps, inspect fruit, and deploy 2,500 pesticide-treated boards within a 5 km radius of the detection site. Fukuoka officials also urged growers to report abnormalities promptly. Source: Saga Prefecture
