Fukuoka Assembly Replaces Gold Badges to Cut Costs

Amid soaring gold prices, the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly will switch from 18-karat gold badges to gold-plated versions starting with the next term after the 2027 elections. The move will also eliminate smaller badges and those for former members. The 18-karat badges cost ¥66,000 each in 2022—double the 2018 price—and the change is expected to reduce expenses from over ¥30 million to around ¥2 million. Source: FBS
