Rising in the heart of Tenjin, the green building of ACROS Fukuoka is home to the Step Garden, a lush slope covered with seasonal trees. Locals affectionately call it “Mount ACROS.”
Each holiday season, this little forest in the middle of the city transforms into a glowing hillside of lights, wrapping the trees in a magical atmosphere.
One of Kyushu’s largest illumination events, this year’s ACROS Fukuoka Illumination features the theme Kobito no Mori—“Forest of KOBITOS”.
In collaboration with KOBITOS Zukan, the bestselling children’s book series with over 3.1 million copies sold, a cast of strange and whimsical creatures known as Kobito—neither insect nor fairies, plant—appear throughout the garden in glowing form. Their tiny silhouettes peek from between the trees, turning Mount ACROS into a fantastical forest.
All 23 Kobito characters are featured in lights, including Fukuoka-connected favorites like Hiding Peach Bottom (Kakure Momojiri) and Saintly Red Wing (Hotoke Akabane).
Pass through a tunnel of light and step onto sound-reactive paths. The forest isn’t just for viewing—it responds to your steps and movements, creating an immersive, interactive nighttime experience.
As you climb higher, you’ll reach the fourth floor and find a glowing field of light. Bathed in soft illumination, KOBITOS appear to dance in an aurora-like video display. It’s a place to pause, breathe, and rest in the quiet glow.
At the very top of the Step Garden, a giant 4-meter KOBITOS panel greets visitors. Surrounded by colorful lights, the rooftop also offers sweeping nighttime views of Tenjin from 60 meters above ground.
