Bird Flu Detected In Wild Bird In Kitakyushu

A wild bird found weakened in Kitakyushu on November 11 tested positive for a highly pathogenic avian influenza strain, the first detection in Fukuoka Prefecture this season. The Environment Ministry designated a 10-kilometer monitoring zone covering parts of Kitakyushu, Nogata, Nakama, Munakata, and nearby districts. No abnormalities have been reported at local poultry farms, but authorities urged caution and asked the public not to touch wild birds and to report dead specimens to local offices. Similar detections were recently confirmed in Miyazaki and Kagoshima, and poultry outbreaks occurred in Hokkaido and Niigata, extending a nationwide pattern now in its sixth season.
