In winter 2026, as the Ishibashi Cultural Center (Ishibashi Bunka Center) approaches its 70th anniversary, it introduces a new light experience. Created by nightscape critic and illumination producer Marumaru Motoo, the show unfolds across two contrasting gardens. The Western-style garden glows with grand lighting, with a “Light Orchestra” sound-and-light performance staged every 10 minutes. In the Japanese garden zone, lighting harmonizes with nature alongside an aurora show. In the “Forest of Creation,” where Kurume-born Western-style painter Sakamoto Hanjirō’s atelier stands, bamboo lanterns illuminate the paths, adding a quiet sense of mystery to the night forest.
