JR Kyushu Plans to Cut “Kasasagi” Services Next Spring

JR Kyushu President Yoji Furumiya said the company plans to reduce the “Kasasagi” limited express between Hakata and Hizen-Kashima from 14 to 10 daily services with the spring 2026 timetable revision. The route has been maintained under a three-year agreement following the 2022 Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen opening, but daily ridership has remained around 300, or roughly 20 passengers per train. Furumiya informed Saga officials of the plan and said low-demand trains would be cut while convenience would be preserved by adjusting local services. The final decision is expected in December.
