This annual December performance features all 15 geigi (geisha) of the Hakata Kenban, who preserve the traditional performing arts of Hakata. The program includes festive pieces such as “Iwai Medeta,” a staple at celebratory occasions, and “Kuroda Bushi” (with shigin poetry), a well-known folk song of Fukuoka. Accompanied by shamisen, taiko, and vocals, the elegant dances and vibrant costumes fill the stage in a colorful display of classical Japanese music and dance. The first part opens with formal greetings by the mayor of Fukuoka and local business leaders.
