Fukuoka Airport Installs Solar Panels for Cargo Area

Fukuoka International Airport Co. announced on December 18 that solar panels have been installed on rooftops in the airport’s cargo district, with operations set to begin on January 1, 2026. The project was carried out with Kyuden Next, part of the Kyushu Electric Power Group, under a power purchase agreement. Electricity generated will be used for cargo facilities and international terminal lighting. Panels were installed on three buildings, including domestic cargo agent facilities, with estimated annual output of 1,289 megawatt-hours. The airport operator said the initiative is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2.4% compared with fiscal 2019. Kyuden Next will handle maintenance and power sales, using a national subsidy aimed at airport decarbonization. Source: Kyuden Next Company
