Held in conjunction with Lunar New Year (Shunsetsu), this is one of Nagasaki’s signature winter events. During the 18-day festival, around 15,000 vividly colored Chinese lanterns illuminate the city center, creating a magical atmosphere. Lantern displays are set up at 11 locations, including Shinchi Chinatown, Minato Park, and Chūō Park, each offering a distinct visual experience.
Evening street events such as dragon dances and the Emperor’s Parade offer chances to experience Chinese culture while exploring the city. Food stalls add to the festive atmosphere with a variety of snacks. Check the official website in advance for venue maps and event schedules.
