Kagoshima University Plans Amami Satellite Campus

Kagoshima University announced plans to open a satellite campus on Amami Oshima in the 2028 academic year to support regional revitalization in remote island areas. Faculty members and students will stay on the island for several months to carry out practical education and research in fields including agriculture, fisheries, mobility, and community healthcare. The facility is tentatively named the “TSUMUGU AMAMI Campus.” Preparations will begin in fiscal 2026 through a new collaboration center working with local governments and businesses. University officials said the initiative aims to reduce youth outmigration and serve as a model for revitalizing depopulated regions. Source: Nikkei / FNN Kagoshima TV
