A construction ceremony was held on March 8 to mark the start of a grade separation project along the Route 3 Hakata Bypass in Fukuoka, aimed at easing congestion and improving safety. The project will cover a 1.6-kilometer section between the Shimo-Usui and Airport Entrance intersections, where several signalized crossings currently cause frequent traffic delays. According to the Kyushu Regional Development Bureau, the area also records a higher rate of injury accidents than the prefectural average. Plans call for the construction of an elevated roadway that will allow vehicles to bypass traffic signals. Officials say the upgrade is expected to reduce congestion, improve road safety, and shorten travel time to Fukuoka Airport by about five minutes. The completion date has not yet been announced.
