JR Kyushu plans to open its Amu Plaza retail complex in Tenjin, Fukuoka, marking the brand’s first location outside a railway station. The project will repurpose the existing Vioro shopping facility, which has been operated by a JR Kyushu group company since 2022, with an opening
planned for spring 2027. The 11-story building, originally opened in 2006, will be retained, while some of its approximately 50 tenants, including fashion and dining outlets, are expected to be renewed. Vioro’s proprietary credit card service will end and be replaced by JR Kyushu’s JQ Card to strengthen customer loyalty. The move comes amid intensifying retail competition in Tenjin, where major redevelopment projects continue to reshape the commercial landscape. Source: Yomiuri Shimbun / RKB News
