Fukuoka Estimates Impact of East Kyushu Shinkansen

Fukuoka Prefecture released its first estimate of the economic impact of the proposed East Kyushu Shinkansen, projecting annual effects of approximately Y69.9 billion if the line is completed. The planned route would connect Fukuoka, Oita, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima along eastern Kyushu. Although designated as a planned route in 1973, the project has yet to move toward construction. The prefecture estimated construction-related economic effects at Y666.1 billion through infrastructure work and increased demand for materials such as steel and concrete. Once operational, officials project an additional 5.28 million visitors annually for tourism and business travel. Fukuoka said it will continue efforts to promote upgrading the route to a formally approved development project. Source: NHK News / Zaikai Kyushu
