JR Kyushu and aviation startup SkyDrive are advancing plans to launch commercial “flying car” services in Oita Prefecture by fiscal 2028 (according to a report in the Nikkei.) Five candidate sites for takeoff and landing facilities have been selected in Beppu, Yufu, and Oita cities, with areas near Beppu Port considered likely locations. Planned services include sightseeing flights over Beppu Bay and an air taxi route between Beppu and Yufuin, reducing travel time from about 40 to 60 minutes by land to roughly 15 minutes by air.
