A new urban park centered on skateboarding, street culture, public art, and family recreation will open this autumn on the grounds of Boat Race Fukuoka.
Fukuoka City has announced that the new facility will be named Boat Race Fukuoka Tenjin Street Park and is scheduled to open on October 30, 2026. The project is part of the Boat Race Fukuoka Park Transformation Project, an initiative aimed at making better use of the long-established waterfront venue while opening it up more fully to local residents and visitors.
At the heart of the development will be one of Japan’s largest indoor skateboarding facilities. The park will feature separate areas for both “Street” and “Park,” the two skateboarding disciplines featured in the Olympic Games. The name Tenjin Street Park reflects both this focus on street culture and the city’s goal of creating new activity and culture in central Fukuoka.
The skateboarding facilities will include a street course, beginner area, and park course, providing space for users of different ages and skill levels. Admission will be ¥500 for adults and ¥100 for high school students and younger. Operating hours will be 10:00 to 22:00.
The project extends well beyond skateboarding. Plans include a large event plaza with a giant video screen, tiered seating, wall art installations, a running bike course, playground equipment, inclusive play areas, slides, and a large inflatable play dome. Admission to the event plaza will be free.
Street art will play a prominent role in the park’s identity. Participating artists include Fukuoka-based artist Kyne, whose mural at the Fukuoka Art Museum attracted national attention, and HITOTZUKI, the internationally active mural duo formed by KAMI and SASU.
According to the city, the project is intended to transform Boat Race Fukuoka into a more open and attractive destination while encouraging greater use of the waterfront area. Located between Tenjin and Hakata Bay, the site is expected to become a new gathering place that connects the city center with the waterfront through sports, culture, recreation, and public events.
