Fukuoka Gokoku Shrine Mitama Festival
~
Held over the four days of Obon, the Mitama Festival at Fukuoka Gokoku Shrine is a summer tradition honoring the war dead and ancestors while offering prayers for peace. Lanterns dedicated by bereaved families and local residents illuminate the shrine grounds, and from 18:30 the wooded precinct is bathed in a soft glow, creating a serene atmosphere in the heart of the city.
A Mitama Festival ceremony is held each day from 18:00, with a sacred Orio Kagura performance scheduled for August 15. Throughout the festival, the shrine approach is lined with stalls for the Mitama Festival Night Market, adding a lively atmosphere to the evening.
