The large mixed-use building under construction on the former IMS site in central Tenjin has been named Tenjin Taiju, Mitsubishi Estate announced on August 31. The project, part of Fukuoka City’s Tenjin Big Bang redevelopment initiative, will rise 91 meters with 21 floors above ground and four basement levels. It will include offices, a hotel and commercial facilities. The name reflects the developer’s aim for the building to become a “great tree” rooted in Tenjin, bringing together different people and cultures as the district continues to develop. About 600 square meters of green space will be created around the lower floors, while the exterior will make extensive use of timber sourced from Kyushu, combining greenery and natural materials in the city center. Mitsubishi Estate also plans to supply all electricity used in the building from renewable energy sources.
