National government rejects request for Heisei Chikuho Railway aid

Tagawa’s mayor says the national government has rejected requests for financial support for Heisei Chikuho Railway. The city had sought help through grants and special local allocation tax payments. A regional council decided in March to replace the railway with buses. The timing of the railway’s closure remains under review. The mayor, elected in July, says a change in national policy could provide grounds to reconsider the decision. Source: NHK News / TNC News
