THINNING in Itoshima

Founded in Itoshima, THINNING takes its name from the practice of selectively removing trees to keep forests healthy. The event uses a market as a starting point for exploring local forests and their challenges. Shops and makers bring products made from forest materials and reclaimed wood, alongside furniture, crafts, textiles and plants, with stories behind how they are made.

Bread, baked goods and coffee are also available. As visitors browse and eat, they can learn where the wood grew, how materials are used and the issues facing the forests they come from.

Held at Marutaike Park, within walking distance of JR Chikuzen-Maebaru Station, THINNING offers a day of discovering the connections between
Itoshima’s forests, everyday life and local craftsmanship.
