Kyushu Couples Prefer Big Weddings

According to Bridal Trends 2013, a survey issued by Recruit Marketing, the publisher of the bridal information magazine Zekushi, Kyushu ranked second out of 15 regions for the average number of wedding guests (99.4). In Kyushu, couples invite 1.5 times more guests to their wedding than the average Tokyo couple (68.5 guests), which Recruit sees as evidence of the tendency for Kyushuans to invite many people they owe obligations to, in addition to close friends and family, to their weddings. A breakdown of guests at Kyushu weddings revealed that 30.4 are friends and mentors from school (the highest number in Japan), 25.6 are bosses and work colleagues (2nd highest) and 6.0 are acquaintances and neighbors (3rd highest). Kyushu has ranked between 2nd and 4th in wedding guest numbers since 2005, when nationwide comparisons became available. The number one-ranking region was Aomori-Akita-Iwate with 101.5 guests on average. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun, 10/18
