Toyota Motor Company began selling the updated model of its Sai, a mid-sized hybrid sedan manufactured by Toyota Motor Kyushu. The near complete overhaul of the vehicle’s interior and exterior was designed and developed by Toyota Motor Kyushu based on plans from Toyota HQ. The Sai’s innovative design includes interconnected headlights, and more sound dampening materials were added to the interior. This is also the first vehicle in which Toyota used eco-plastic and recycled materials for more than 20% of the resin parts. Toyota has been gradually increasing development at Toyota Motor Kyushu since 2008. In 2011, the subsidiary designed and developed the Lexus HS 250h hybrid vehicle and received high marks from headquarters for its work. Nishinippon Shimbun, Aug. 30
