From May 1, Fukuoka City started “cool biz”- an environmentally friendly cooling solution for summer in Japan. It allows city employees to attend work without ties and jackets, in order to reduce the demand for air conditioning in the workplace and thereby reduce power consumption. AC temperature will be set at 28℃. Usually, Cool Biz begins on June 1, however this year Fukuoka City is starting one month earlier due to an anticipated shortage of electric power between May 1 and Oct. 31. Fukuoka City offices will also begin a Friday “no zangyo” (no overtime) policy during the same cool biz period. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun Newspaper
