Colorful hot-air balloons from Japan and overseas drift above the autumn fields of the Saga Plain at one of Japan’s leading international balloon competitions. Flights begin around 07:00 and 15:00, with pilots reading the wind to navigate as close as possible to designated targets. The morning launch, when balloons rise together across the venue, is a particular highlight.
After the morning competition, Balloon Fantasia features giant balloons shaped like animals and characters. Conditions permitting, visitors may be allowed into the competition area for a closer look.
On the evenings of Nov 2 and 3, tethered balloons are scheduled to glow with the light of their burners.
Roads and parking areas become particularly congested on weekends and public holidays. For visitors traveling from Fukuoka, JR Balloon Saga Station, open only during the event and located right beside the venue, is a convenient option. Flights and balloon activities depend heavily on wind and weather and may change or be canceled at short notice. Check the latest official updates before setting out.
