The 66th Fukuoka International Open Marathon is happening this Sunday, Dec. 2! Two groups of runners, each with a separate time limit, will take part. Group A’s starting point is Heiwadai Track and Field Stadium, whilst Group B begin the race at Ohori Park. Both groups continue through the south-west part of Fukuoka City and head east to the turning point in Kashii. This year, the marathon has expanded its field with elite athletes who had originally planned to run the ING New York City Marathon. Top international runners will participate in this acclaimed race, together with Japanese runners. From a competitive point of view, the Fukuoka Marathon is one of the most important marathons in the world. However it is very small, with just 436 finishers in 2011 and 331 finishers in 2010. With an invited field numbering 41, the race is the most top-heavy commercial marathon for men in the world. The full invited field is listed here. Watch the race and show your support!
