Held on the last Sunday of April in Itoshima, a well-known green onion–growing area, this annual festival celebrates all things negi. Centered on a hands-on harvesting experience and local food, it offers a distinctly Itoshima-style day out.
The green onion harvest experience (¥500) lets participants enjoy digging up their own negi, with a bonus challenge: aim for 1 kg, and prizes are awarded based on how close the harvest weight is. Visitors can also sample negi dishes made with freshly picked onions, including negibozu tempura (onion flower buds) and Itoshima’s local specialty, somen chiri. Other attractions include a muddy “treasure hunt” game in the rice fields (¥500, available as a set with the harvest experience), plus local specialties such as Ito Monogatari yogurt and Yamasue’s Itoshima mentaiko at special prices.
