Agano Ware Autumn Kiln Opening
~

Eight pottery studios in the Agano district of Fukuchi Town open their doors for this autumn pottery event. Visitors can explore each studio’s distinctive style, discover new work and browse tableware for everyday use. Pottery events are a regular feature of spring and autumn in this rural area at the foot of Mount Fukuchi.

Agano ware is designated by the Japanese government as a traditional craft and is also known for its tea ceremony ceramics. Its defining features are thin, lightweight forms and the varied colors produced by a wide range of glazes.

During the event, all Agano ware is sold at a 20% discount. Other attractions include a stamp rally, limited-edition collaborative pottery pieces and stalls serving local food. Between studios, visitors can enjoy the autumn scenery and explore the countryside where this pottery tradition has taken root.

Getting there: A free shuttle bus connects Akaike Station on the Heisei Chikuho Railway with the event venue and each participating studio, making it easy to explore without a car.
