A local festival held along Akamajuku-dori, a former post town on the Karatsu Kaido that flourished during the Edo period. The historic street, home to long-established merchants including a sake brewery, becomes a pedestrian zone filled with food stalls and stage events.
Traditional houses—normally closed to the public—open for free on the day, allowing visitors to experience the atmosphere of the old post town. At long-established Katsuya Shuzo, a special brewery opening includes tastings of new sake and limited-edition brews. On Saturday, Feb 21, a historical parade featuring participants in full period costume brings the history of Akamajuku vividly to life.
