Arashi is Japanese for “storm”, and that’s exactly what this jazz trio will be unleashing at this intimate gig. Johan Berthling (double bass), Paal Nilssen-Love (drums, percussion) and Akira Sakata (alto saxophone, clarinet, vocals) are three of the finest free jazz musicians working today, and they’ll be playing just one gig in Fukuoka as part of their Japan tour. Akira Sakata has been one of the most influential figures on Japan’s free-jazz scene since the Seventies, and the music he creates with these two Scandinavian powerhouses has been described as “hot, steamy and climactic”. A must see!
