The Arita Ceramic Fair is one of Japan’s largest pottery markets, with more than 400 shops selling a wide range of ceramics along a 4 km stretch between JR Kami-Arita Station and Arita Station. The whole Arita area comes alive during the fair, including Arita Será, the world’s largest Arita ware shopping complex, where specialty ceramic stores line a vast 20,000-tsubo site just off the main street.
Along Tonbai Wall Alley, temporary cafés open for visitors, and in front of Aritakan, morning rice porridge is served from 6:00 each day (300 servings daily, ¥700). The fair gets very crowded, so an early start is recommended.
