Located in the northern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, Ashiya Town hosts an annual sand sculpture event that is not to be missed. This international event features creations by professional sand sculptors from both Japan and abroad. Last year, the event attracted a record-breaking 72,500 visitors. This year’s theme is “Insects,” and visitors can marvel at 36 stunning sculptures crafted solely from white sand and water. Not only are these intricate works of art a sight to behold during the day, but they also come to life in an entirely new way when they are fantastically illuminated after sundown. During weekdays, don’t miss the special light and sound shows at 7 pm and 8 pm. On weekends, stick around after the 8 pm show for a fireworks display that lights up the sky. This is a magical event that offers something for everyone. Come and be enchanted by the artistry and craftsmanship on display.
