From monumental installations to paintings, photographs and posters, this exhibition opens a window onto the varied art of South Asia. The second installment of Fukuoka Asian Art Museum’s “A Guide to Asian Art” series focuses on seven countries—India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives—revealing the region’s diversity through works from the museum collection.
Part one, held in the Special Exhibition Gallery, focuses on large-scale installation works from the 2000s in the museum collection, alongside recent and newly created works by represented artists. The display highlights the distinctive approaches and practices of individual artists.
Part two, in the Asia Gallery, presents around 100 works including paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs and posters, offering a broader survey of modern and contemporary South Asian art.
South Asia encompasses a wide range of religions, histories, languages and social backgrounds. By comparing works from across the region, visitors can explore how these differences have shaped local cultures and artistic expression.
