Fukuoka-based calligrapher Risa Hamachi will hold her first solo exhibition to mark 30 years of calligraphy practice and 20 years of teaching. A long-time member of WALD ART STUDIO, a space for people who create art through painting and writing, Hamachi now produces handwritten shop signage and teaches calligraphy to children and international residents.

This exhibition, the culmination of her career to date, features around 20 works ranging from traditional calligraphy to seals and new sumi-ink pieces.

Hamachi views calligraphy as more than writing—it is a mindful practice rooted in Japanese culture, involving the careful preparation of ink and respect for form. During the exhibition, she will also host small workshops open to beginners and children.
