A seasonal highlight in central Fukuoka, Christmas Gate Park in Fukuoka Daimyo Garden City has returned to Daimyo with its signature calm and charm. While Hakata and Tenjin light-ups draw big crowds, this one feels more intimate—right in the heart of the stylish Daimyo district, yet somehow quieter.

Passing through the event’s signature illuminated gate, visitors step into a circular plaza softly glowing with light from every direction. Surrounded by buildings but wrapped in festive atmosphere, the space feels like a small pocket of winter magic.

This year, the number of huts has grown to 18, and the offerings go beyond the usual. Hot wine in hand, guests can wander among stalls selling everything from Italian-style ramen to grilled oysters and cheesy pretzels. There’s even an illuminated horse-drawn carriage on site—yes, an actual rideable one—which draws a steady stream of photo-seekers of all ages.

After dark, projection mapping adds another layer. Lights sweep across the walls and plaza, unfolding a whimsical story: falling snowflakes become gift boxes, then a giant Christmas tree, and finally Santa himself. It’s simple but effective—and all the more striking for being nestled in Daimyo’s laid-back setting.
