Sake doesn’t just pair well with Japanese food, it also goes great with many other kinds of cuisine. Gourmet shop and restaurant Dean & DeLuca seeks to teach sake enthusiasts and novices alike about sake-food pairing at its monthly Sake Market event. Sample various types of sake from Sumiyoshi Shuhan (specialty liquor store with a wide range of sake; from ¥500 a glass) and various tapas-style dishes from Dean & DeLuca (from ¥500 each). There is a different theme every month; October’s theme is mushroom and truffles, so expect some delicious dishes from the deli. If you find a type of sake you particularly like, you can buy a bottle to take home. The Market Table restaurant will be styled to look like a sake market for the event.
