During the World Aquatics Championships – Fukuoka 2023, a specially set up fanzone, Fukuoka Ichiba, will be open for everyone to freely enter. On display within the fanzone will be specially made ‘Kakiyama’ (decorative float) from Fukuoka’s traditional Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival. Large screens will broadcast live swimming competitions from various venues.
Booths sponsored by the tournament’s official partners and national sponsors will provide a variety of experiences and samples. There will also be booths selling Fukuoka’s famous dishes like ramen and cod roe, as well as vegan and Halal food options. After 5 pm, a night market will join the fanzone, offering activities like yukata wearing experiences and shooting games.
On weekends and holidays in July after 5 pm, there will be live music performances by artists, DJ performances, and stage events featuring traditional Japanese arts like Taiko drumming and calligraphy.
The ‘Kakiyama’ (decorative float) is the work of doll artist Hiromine Nakamura. The motifs of the crane and turtle, considered good luck symbols in Japan, are used to express the wish for the World Aquatics Championships to enjoy long-lasting success. As the venue is outdoors, guests are advised to take precautions against heat.
