The Biennale showcases a diverse array of traditional and contemporary art forms, spanning both Japanese and Western styles. Organized by the Fukuoka Cultural Federation, a group of artists active mainly in the Fukuoka area, the event centers around the theme, “Living on This Planet.” At the Fukuoka Art Museum, about 100 artists, including two designated Living National Treasures, will exhibit work in Japanese painting, calligraphy, sculpture, photography, contemporary art, and more. At the adjacent Ohori Park Japanese Garden, visitors can view ikebana floral arrangements (Nov. 22–24), participate in a tea ceremony, and experience incense appreciation sessions with poetry and haiku readings on Nov. 23–24 (¥1,000 each).
